The AFL has released a statement saying there was a misunderstanding in relation to a fan who was asked not to bring the flag of Israel into Marvel Stadium last weekend.

6PR and 3AW football reporter Shane McInnes told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the AFL took too long to clear up the complaint.

“This story got a lot more momentum than it really needed to,” said Mr McInnes.
