Parents at a prestigious Catholic primary school in Perth’s western suburbs have shared their shock and dismay after being told the school will close for its 170 students at the end of next year.

Loreto Nedlands Primary School has been teaching since 1931 but parents were sent a letter on Monday outlining its plan to close after an independent report confirmed its future was uncertain due to demographic changes in the catchment area and the school’s current and long-term financial viability.

Shocked parents joined Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings to discuss what the closure means, with many left with no alternative as to where to send their children after 2023.

“Everyone has been blindsided,” says Kylie Fraser, a parent of three children, with one at Loreto.

“The thing that’s really upsetting the parents the most is there is absolutely no provision for the children going forward.

“The lack of compassion and empathy just blows our minds.”

Another parent Thomas, who has two kids at Loreto, told Liam the news was devastating.

“It feels like a death … doing school drop off this morning, you sort of have this zombie feeling … you know of what do we do and where are we going.”
