PTSD-suffering war veteran speaks on restaurant refusal
An army veteran who has PTSD, a brain injury and hearing loss from injuries sustained in Iraq and Syria has spoken on the discrimination he faces having an assistance dog.
David Pearce served in the US Marine Corps for 20 years and has been in Perth for just over a year, and says his god Gunner has “saved my life more than once”.
He said incidents like his recent refusal of entry to a Perth restaurant happen too often, and leave him feeling “humiliated”.

“The normal reaction when we enter a restaurant is apprehension, because there’s not many service dogs here,” Mr Pearce said.
“Me and Gunner try our best to alleviate anyone’s worries.”
