Push to tax retirement earnings in wake of ‘unsustainable’ super rates
A public policy think tank is backing the Labor government’s proposed to changes to superannuation earnings, arguing the current level of concessions may doom future retirees.
Grattan Institute Director of Economic Policy Brendan Coates told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings rules on super must be shored up to prevent tax avoidance.
“The cost of those tax breaks is soon going to exceed the cost of the aged pension,” Mr Coates said.
“That’s just a system that is unsustainable.”
