‘Putting yourself at peril’: SLSWA urges punters to prioritise their safety during Abalone season

Hundreds of punters flocked to the WA coastline for the third hour of the abalone fishing season over the weekend, eager to try their luck at catching Abalone along the West Coast Zone.
General manager of SLSWA, Chris Peck told Simon Beaumont on 6PR’s Perth Today, “Our people make the single biggest difference in making sure that when people go and pluck abalone off those reefs that they go home with their family alive.”
“If you’re not at a patrolling area where lifesavers are, you’re putting yourself at peril, particularly if your swimming ability and your capabilities are not matched to that environment,” Peck continued.
Peck urged punters to be aware of their own abilities and prioritise their personal safety when participating.
