Qantas to pay its dues after ‘egregious’ overselling scheme uncovered
Qantas has been forced to pay a fine of $100 million and $20 million to customers after the ACCC found the airline was ‘misleading customers’.
The punishment relates to Qantas’ process of overselling booked flights to customers after they were already cancelled, and will see more than 86,000 customers recompensed.
ACCC chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb told Julie-anne Sprague onĀ 6PR Afternoons the payments are on top of whatever compensation customers have already received.
“Qantas knows who those customers are… the independent monitor will give reports to not only the Qantas board, but to the ACCC,” Ms Cass-Gottlieb said.
