Queen Elizabeth II has been buried alongside her late husband, parents and sister at the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.

.“The Queen was buried together with the Duke of Edinburgh, at The King George VI Memorial Chapel,” an announcement from the royal family’s official website said.

Personal touches could be seen amongst the pageantry and ceremony. The Queen’s two corgis, Sandy and Muick, were escorted by pages in red tailcoats as their former owner’s coffin came past.

Nine News reporter in London Clinton Maynard says it was estimated as many as 2 million people filled central London and other notable points such as Windsor Palace for the event, while around 2000 guests farewelled the late monarch at her state funeral.

“The interesting thing was that the main train line from London to Windsor was out today, so that means a lot of people who wanted to be there, couldn’t,” he said.

Queen Elizabeth II’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter says the extent of the public outpouring was surprising.

“Firstly gathering around Buckingham Palace when the hearse arrived back about a week ago,” he said.

“The other occasion has been the lying-in-state and the number of people that have queued for in excess of 24 hours, just to file past Westminster Hall to pay respects to the Queen.

“It was a tremendous surprise to see the way people were behaving.”

Several 6PR listeners rang the Breakfast program after seeing a spider on a flower atop the Queen’s coffin.
