People who smoke cannabis daily are under risk from a relatively unknown illness, doctors are warning.

“Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome” causes symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting which researchers warn could become more common as legality and use changes.

Clinical toxicologist and emergency medicine physician Associate Professor Joe Rotella say there is records of people dying from excessive vomiting.

“It’s very debilitating, if you’re someone who happens to use cannabis but leading a pretty normal life otherwise, it has impacts on not only your health, but your ability to go to work, you’re ability to go out with friends and more,” Professor Rotella said.
