Veteran journalist Ray Martin has defended his decision to label No voters as “d**ckheads and dinosaurs” at a recent Yes rally, saying he wasn’t referring to every No voter.

Mr Martin stopped short of revoking his statement, however, arguing that many No voters are deciding based on ignorance.

“I was talking about the ‘If  You Don’t Know, Vote No’ slogan; it’s one of the stupidest slogans I’ve evr heard in my life,” Mr Martin said.

“I don’t think there’s any real debate or politics behind this anyway, it just is the decent thing to do.”
