‘Reality TV version of Survivor’: Matt Canavan on how the Libs lost the election

Matt Canavan has related the Liberal’s defeat to a reality tv show and ‘personality contest’ in an interview on 6PR Mornings.

Looking back on the election campaign and where the votes went, Canavan told Liam Bartlett that there was a small target on both sides for Labor and Liberal.

“I think our issue was because we didn’t take a very strong policy platform to this election… it did become a personality contest,” he said.

“We were on the wrong side of that,

“The election became a bit of a reality tv version of survivor, and the people made us leave the island at the wrong time.”

Canavan also looked back on the effect of the Independents on the election and how Clive Palmer and his United Australia Party took votes away from the Coalition.

“He definitely hurt the Liberal and National parties; we did lose votes to them,” he explained.

“He probably won’t end up with a single-seat,

“Everyone has a hobby. He spends his money.”
