Recreational boat users are now allowed to apply to be part of the new Shared Use Mooring System, with 466 of the 1164 licencees already saying yes to sharing their mooring.

Mark Briant, Department of Transport Acting Director Waterways Safety Management told Simon Beaumont on Perth Live that this is an exciting new system that maximises the use of existing moorings.

“Until now the boating public have not had access to these moorings. It opened up today where people can purchase an authorisation and they will then have access to hundreds of moorings,” he said.

“We have tried to make this as simple as we can for the boaties out there.”

This opens the waterways in the Swan River, Canning River, Mangles Bay and in the Peel region with Rottenest having an independent system.
