West Australians are being refunded thousands of dollars after “dodgy” financial schemes from banks and insurers was uncovered.

The Banking Royal Commission that ended in 2019 found financial institutions and insurers had used pressure tactics to sell billions of dollars of ‘junk insurance’ and financial advice that wasn’t provided.

Money-saving expert Joel Gibson, whose company Remediator is helping reclaim the funds owed to thousands of Australians, said bigger-than-normal refunds were occurring in WA, with the average refund of $2000 the second highest in Australia behind the NT.

The Kill Bills author told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings there was one refund of $19,000 to a WA couple who were “ripped off by an adviser”, and that the banks had set aside billions to repay the money.
