The City of Vincent will meet next Tuesday to approve a submission to Landgate that will request a name change to Banks Reserve.

The reserve, which is located on the banks of the swan river, will return to its original name ‘Warndoolier’, which will also reflect its Noongar History.

Just over 50% of respondents to the council’s expression of interest backed the name change of the reserve.

Whadjuk Noongar elder and Emeritus Professor at UWA School of Indigenous Studies Dr Len Collar told Oliver Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live he’s happy to see the name change.

“I think Australia is going through a process of reflection about who we are as a nation.”

“The idea of place names really does give us the ancient narratives in and on country,” Dr Collar said.
