Pedestrians could be twice as likely to be hit by an electric or hybrid car as those powered by diesel or petrol, according to international researchers.

The Pedestrian Council has also picked up on the amount of incidents involving e-riders and pedestrians and is calling for a crackdown on their high speeds.

Pedestrian Council CEO Harold Scruby told Julie-anne Sprague onĀ 6PR Afternoons if focus is on the companies supplying electric cars and scooters, it is in the wrong direction.

“Let me give you a salient point; in a study done in Melbourne, 56 per cent of those who admitted for serious injuries [while on scooters] in Melbourne hospitals were intoxicated,” Mr Scruby said.
