Royal Commission found Pell should have done more to protect victims
The Royal Commission’s secret findings into Cardinal George Pell have been released – revealing he should have done more to protect victims.
Cardinal Pell had claimed he was deceived and lied to by Catholic Church officials about alleged abuse including the horrendous offences committed by Australia’s worst paedophile priest who once lived at the same presbytery as the Cardinal in Ballarat, Gerald Ridsdale.
But the Royal Commission rejected that defence instead finding the Cardinal, as a priest in Ballarat and Melbourne the 1970s and 1980s, was aware that priests were being moved to other parishes because they had abused children.
3AW Reporter Pat Mitchell told Gareth Parker on Mornings the Royal Commission said Cardinal Pell should have done more to stop the ongoing abuse.
The unredacted findings were made public today after the High Court last month overturned Cardinal Pell’s child abuse convictions.
