A notice to parents revealed there was “an incident in a class between a teacher and student” but the school said it was still investigating and had also referred the matter to the department.
WA State School Teachers’ Union president Pat Byrne said if the teacher involved was a union member, the union would support her through any investigative process that may take place.
Department of Education director general Lisa Rodgers said it was a very serious allegation.
“Parents can be assured all circumstances are being looked at thoroughly,” she said.
“A staff member from a southern suburbs school has been suspended while enquiries are made.”
