Schools will remain open

Article image for Schools will remain open

To prevent the spread of Coronavirus, events are being cancelled and crowds have been banned from large sporting events but schools around Australia remain open.

“There was a decision by all of the chief health officers from around Australia that there is no need to close schools as a preemptive measure at this point” WA Minister for Education, Sue Ellery told 6PR Breakfast.
“This is clearly an evolving situation and that advice might change at some point in the future.”

There are three reasons they have decided not to close the schools;

  • So hospital staff and carers don’t have to choose between work and staying home to look after the kids,
  • Keep older students from heading out and about instead of contained within school
  • Grandparents aren’t put at risk and relied on for looking after kids.
