Should elderly drivers have to use S-Plates?
The idea of Senior S-plates that would identify our elderly drivers out on the roads has emerged following new data that identifies Australians aged 80-89 “have a greater risk of death in road crashes then any other cohort”.
But Rod Barton Former Transport Matters Party MP and transport advocate, told Oliver Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live that he’s not a fan of the idea of ‘S’ plates.
“I’m more interested in making sure we have everybody out on the road who has the necessary skills and are capable so we can have everybody safe out on the roads”
“I think it’s a bit discriminatory because there’s all different standards, there will be some driver who will have the necessary skills but there’s no doubt and the data backs this up that people lose their skills as they age.”
“S-plates don’t make you a better driver”
