Shrinking bathrooms: Aussies forced to downsize amidst cost-of-living crisis
The average bathroom size is decreasing as homeowners and builders scale back their renovation plans to tackle rising costs.
Senior Economist Tom Devitt joined Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons to discuss the changes and cost implications associated with COVID-19 and the rising cost-of-living pressures.
“Australian’s are having to manage with less at the moment. It’s all part of the cost of living crisis that’s been building up over the last few years,” Mr Devitt said.
“One of the things we saw in the survey, was people are spending the same on their kitchens but getting less for it. It’s not just the building material or labour costs, but it’s the broader cost-of-living factors, like fuel, food, electricity and insurance, which have all really combined to put the clamps on the average household budget.”
