Western Australia is taking stock of the federal budget, receiving only 2% of the infrastructure spend.

Perth Today host Simon Beaumont floated the idea of WA seceding with Shane Wright, Economics Editor at the SMH & The Age, but was given a very sobering analysis.

“Defence force costs alone, as defence is a key part of the budget, you’d go, ‘Oh my lord, that’s a lot of money,’” he said.

Perth Live host Oliver Peterson also analysed the federal budget and spoke to Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles who said the budget focused on helping people with cost-of-living pressures.

“Cumulatively, we are $207 billion better off in terms of the bottom line than what we inherited from the Liberal party which in turn is going to save the country $60 billion worth of interest payments over the decade”, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
