Smoking ban: Some of Perth’s busiest streets tipped to go smoke-free
Smokers look set to be banned from lighting up on William Street, Beaufort Street and major town centres of Perth by the end of the year.
The City of Vincent has approved five smoke-free areas in parts of North Perth, Mount Hawthorn and Leederville to implement their public health plan.
The City surveyed the community and found the majority backed the ban, with 61 per cent of businesses and people supporting the idea.
City of Vincent CEO David MacLennan explained the process behind the ban to Oliver Peterson onĀ Perth Live.
“We’re trying to normalise our environments as being smoke-free,” he said.
“This is a good step in the right direction for the City of Vincent,
“We want to create that seamless environment when you get off the train at Leederville you come into Oxford Street, (so) you don’t have to consume second-hand smoke.”
