South Perth council’s bizarre move to reject largest petition ever submitted
In a bizarre move, the City of South Perth’s council has rejected the largest petition its community has ever submitted.
Residents put up their hands in a petition to develop an $80 million sport and recreation hub the city has been planning for years.
George Watts, Chief Petitioner and resident of South Perth, explained that the council had rejected the once-accepted plan despite nearly 2500 signatures being submitted.
“This is a third of people who can vote, so it’s a lot of people,” he said.
“They were well within their rights to ignore it completely if they wanted to but to not accept it was completely out of the blue.”
