‘Starting at the farm gate’: ACCC Chairwoman puts pressure on supermarket giants
The CEOs of Australia’s two biggest supermarkets are under pressure from angry senators, after Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci was warned about giving answers that were too evasive.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission are undertaking their own enquiry under the advisement of government.
ACCC chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons that families are struggling, buying frozen groceries instead of fresh and are commonly adjusting how frequently they shop.
“At a broad level we know the independent sector has contracted, Aldi has expanded…Coles and Woolworths has expanded,” Ms Cass-Gottlieb said.
