Federal shadow defense minister and Member for Canning Andrew Hastie has backed the government’s AUKUS submarine deal, saying it will boost multiple WA industries.

Mr Hastie told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there is set to be billions of dollars invested into HMAS Stirling Naval Base to accommodate the initial five submarines purchased from the US.

“I think it’s going to be a huge lift to Rockingham and the Peel Region, and [there will be] a lot of opportunities for young Australians,” he said.
