Psychologists at the University of New South Wales have shared their research into identifying so-called “super-recognisers” – people who are exceptionally gifted at recognising people visually.

The university has been working closely with Australian police forces for a decade to identify officers within their ranks who have these talents in order to develop more robust criminal catching techniques.

UNSW School of Psychology research associate Doctor James Dunn told Gary Adshead on 6PR MorningsĀ the university was approached by NSW Police for the research.

“We know these people are out there; they could meet someone in a fleeting encounter and remember their face years later,” Dr Dunn said.
