Surprising stats show the real value in Australia’s EV evolution
The myth that the typical electric car driver lives in a leafy inner-city suburb is busted, with new data from the Electric Vehicle Council shows the outer suburbs zooming past the cities in sales, in Perth Canning Vale topped the list for EV orders.
The new data shows inner metropolitan EV orders being outstripped by those placed in outer metropolitan suburbs; the divide is even greater when combining EV uptake in outer metro, regional and rural areas.
Australian EV Association president Chris Jones told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons the suburban reliance on cars throughout Australia is driving the change.
“It’s purely economics; public transport’s not so flash and you’re typically not in walking distance from where you want to be, so necessity is the key factor here,” Mr Jones said.
