Sydney nightclub’s bizarre move to ban staring without ‘verbal consent’
‘Meeting eyes’ across the room will no longer be allowed at a Sydney nightclub without verbal consent to make the venue a safer space.
The Darlinghurst Institution Club 77 nightclub banned “staring at someone from afar” without permission.
Simon Barwood from the WA Nightclubs Association told Liam Bartlett that it’s already been implemented here in Perth for a while.
“On the face of it and without any experience or background in managing crowds in nightclubs, it may sound heavy-handed,” he said onĀ 6PR Mornings.
“Previously pre-COVID, I have removed someone from one of our venues for staring,
“Any behaviour can be harassment if it’s unwanted, if it’s targeted, if it’s persistant, and if it’s invasive.”
