Australia is one again, as WA rejoins the rest of the country after 697 days of being cut off from the rest of the nation.

About 5000 arrivals in Perth were expected today from 31 Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar flights.

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown paid tribute to his staff for getting everything ready in time and said it was uplifting to see all the smiles and tears of joys of the families who had been reunited.

“Grandparents meeting the grandkids for the first time and the mums and dads catching up with their kids again,” he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.

6PR reporter Anne Naylor was at several terminals at the airport throughout the morning to capture the emotional reunions.

“The airport actually feels like a bit of a scene from Love Actually. Just as I got here a lady was just knelt on the floor holding her grandkids with tears just streaming her eyes, then she got up to give her daughter a really big hug. It’s been really special to witness these things here this morning,” she told Bartlett.
