‘That death was preventable’: Children’s Commissioner demands meaningful change to state care
National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds has lashed out at the ineffectiveness of Indigenous and children’s care reform after a 10-year-old took his own life while in state care.
Ms Hollonds told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there have been “decades” of Royal Commissions and enquiries every time a similar tragedy happens.
“We found 3,005 recommendations across 61 reports and I can tell you, they repeated again and again and again,” she said.
“It’s not that we don’t know what to do; It’s a lack of accountability for action and a lack of a sense of urgency for change.”
