UPDATE: Astrophysicists weigh in on the Green Head Mystery Object
UPDATE: Experts believe a mystery object that washed up on a mid-west beach, north of Jurien Bay, is most likely a piece of space junk.
Australia National University Astrophysicist Brad Tucker told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the two-metre object doesn’t have visible signs it ever made it to space.
“When something goes into space and it’s in orbit, when it comes back down it goes through immense heat and friction,” Dr Tucker said.
“So it probably never fully reached orbit; it’s likely one of the parts of the rocket that helped get the thing into space, but never actually made it into space itself.”

Three days after it was reported to police, the large, round, metallic object that’s washed up on a Green Head beach continues to mystify the world.
Now making worldwide news, the police and Australian Defence Force are still refusing to identify the object outright, leading to a lot of conjecture about what it is and why it exists.

Nine News reporter Jack Hahn took the long trek up to Green Head to try to explain to Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast why everyone still cares about all this.
“This call was made on Sunday night has triggered a national response,” Mr Hahn said.
“Right now, it really is just unclear what this giant object that’s sitting in a tiny town three hours north of Perth actually is.”
