West Coast captain Luke Shuey has paid tribute to fellow veteran Shannon Hurn on Wide World of Sports during Wednesday night’s program.

During his 332-game career, Hurn has never chased the spotlight, and Shuey laughed that he was true to form right until the end.

“His press conference yesterday was the most Shannon Hurn thing I’ve ever seen.”

Hurn handed over the captaincy to Shuey at the end of the 2019 season and it was Hurn’s relaxed nature that Shuey has been most grateful for.

“He just brought a calming influence to the players around him in big moments and big games”.

“You want your leaders to recognise that it’s not that big of a deal. In the end it’s just a game of footy.”

“I tried to take that and guide the young boys in the big moments. Try and take a calming presence.”
