Without a chance overseas encounter, WA wouldn’t have its top drop of 2023.

Back in 2006, young WA winemakers Lance Parkin and Kris Ambrozkiewicz found themselves working at the same US winery.

Despite being one year apart at uni they’d never crossed paths. That chance meeting, a bit of time, and a heap of work led to Battles Wine.

The duo, along with Richard Healy, started the wine brand and launched their first drop (Karridale Chardonnay) in 2019. Just four years on, Battles Wine has taken out the top prize at the WA Good Food Guide 2023 Wine Awards, for their Battles Frankland River Shiraz (2022).

On this episode of ‘The Long Table’, Jamie is joined in the studio by Lance and Kris where they chat about the inspiration for starting Battles Wine, the journey so far, and why their recent Shiraz is so special.
