Key stakeholders in the truck driving industry are calling for mandatory training programs for those wanting to become truck drivers. It comes after a rise is truck related road incidents.

Tim Dawson, TWU State Secretary, and Tracey Lefroy, Moora Shire President spoke to 6PR Mornings host Gary Adshead on the safety concerns.

“There’s very little training other than showing someone how to steer a truck. It needs to be a proper traineeship, even apprenticeship and it needs to be uniformed across Australia,” Dawson said.

“We are having increased accidents on the roads, and truck driver inexperience has been a contributing factor,” Lefroy said.
