The Ukrainian father and worker leading a refugee shelter for 2000 people
Yuriy Pryadko is a Ukrainian manager and father who finds himself in the middle of a war.
The 35-year-old technology executive told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings how devastating the Russian advance has been on his country.
“This is strange. This is senseless. And this is unbelievably brutal because for years we considered Russia to be a brother nation,” he said.
“We considered them to be brother and sisters, and now they’ve come to our home, and they are killing our children, and they are waging the war of conquest.”
Yuriy says he has been working to help the humanitarian crisis on the border.
“I’m a manager, not a fighter. I’ve never fired a (gun) in my life. However, we’ve set up a charity fund and charity organisation in Western Ukraine that’s helping the refugees,” he said.
The organisation is upgrading six mobile soup kitchens, which double as first-aid posts and operates a shelter for up to 2000 people, providing three meals a day and shelter for all the refugees for free.
