Menthol in cigarettes has now been outlawed after changes came into effect today.

Dr Joe Kosterich says he doubts the changes, which include messaging on the sticks, will make a difference to smoking rates.

“In theory, it’s fine, in reality, people will just do what they’ve been increasingly doing over the last – probably – five years or so, which is going to the black market,” he told Perth Today.

He also added there’s a point where all the measures, including the sin taxes, become counter-productive.
