‘They’ve delivered certainty’: Hospitality industry on level two transition

The head of the Australian Hotels Association WA has said that they are hopeful with the decision to ease most level two restrictions next week.

The Premier says the decision to relax the restrictions comes as WA’s COVID peak is expected on Thursday or in the coming days.

“We’re pleased the government has come forward and provided this direction,” the AHA WA CEO told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live.

“It’s something that we’ve been asking for, and they’ve delivered. They’ve delivered the certainty the industry’s wanting to know what the timeline is going to be. “

Minister for Health, Amber-Jade Sanderson, told Oliver Peterson that WA is in a very different position to the rest of Australia for high case settings.

“There has been a move nationally to redefine the need to quarantine for close contacts,” she said. “We are not there. We are still in our first wave, whereas some of those other states are in their third and fourth wave.”

“We’re not making any shifts to the requirements for close contacts to quarantine… to allow critical industries to continue, to allow kids to go to school and parents to go to work, but also allow some of those hospitality and events businesses to open up again.”
