Sue Ellery’s draft version of the update WA school curriculum for consultation with sectors and teachers includes a mandate for tiered consent lessons for children in pre-primary up to Year 10.

The Education Minister joined Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings to discuss the changes, which come after national education ministers agreed back in April to mandate consent education as part of the health and physical education curriculum, which at the moment was taught only ad hoc in WA schools.

“It’s [initially] about understanding personal space, how to say no, and how to share possessions … in senior primary school it’s a bit more around strategies of how to protect personal space, and then role-playing on how to make decisions on how to say no and how to hear no,” she said.
