What began as a dream run for the Sydney to Hobart race turned tragic when two sailors lost their lives due to swinging booms.

Steve Barker, Nine’s Sydney to Hobart race reporter, told 6PR’s Breakfast hosts Mick and Ian that 17 of the 104 boats had been forced to withdraw.

“It’s a high-risk sport. The Sydney to Hobart ocean race is one of the toughest yacht races in the world,” he said.
