WA’s tough new firearm laws come into effect today, with rapid-release action firearms the primary focus.

Click PLAY to hear about the reform.

WA Police Commander Lawrie Panaia explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that there is a 90-day grace period for firearm owners to comply with the new act, which will include a health check every five years.

‘There’s part A, which is your self-assessment, part B, which the doctor will do, and part C, which is the only part that comes to the WA police – the recommendation from the doctor whether you’re fit to hold or unfit to hold,’ he said.
