Another major McGowan Government transport project has been delayed, prompting the Opposition to ask the Auditor General to investigate.

The Opposition spokesperson for Metronet, Tjorn Sibma, said it was very unclear why there had been a third delay to the Forrestfield Airport Link and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti needed to come clean on how it would manage to deliver the project in a timely manner.

“This is is the Minister failing at the first hurdle, she need not do that, she can re-establish her credibility, she can give the public confidence in how this project is going to be implemented,” he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.

“But it is dependent on her coming clean with the public.”

Mornings previously revealed the WA government will pay Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei and engineering firm UGL $6.6m after it axed a controversial $206m contract to rebuild Metronet’s communications network.

Sibma has written to the Auditor General asking its office to investigate why the Huawei contract ended and who was responsible.
