Politicians are pushing for mandatory headlight use at all times on roads under a radical new proposal.

Victorian upper house MP Nick McGowan has put a petition forward which would force drivers to use daytime running lights (DRLs) rain, hail or shine.

Carsguide senior journalist Richard Berry told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast headlights and DRLs make a significant difference to car visibility.

“We’ve got to look at the age of cars in Australia, but I think it should be as mandatory as seatbelts,” Mr Berry said.
