An endangered Loggerhead Turtle found floating on the surface of the water near Broome has been saved from the brink of death, thanks to the incredibly devoted work of rehabilitators.

Olivia – as the turtle has been named – was severely underweight and almost completely covered by four kilograms of barnacles when she was found in Roebuck Bay.

Broome Native Animal Rescue’s Chris Mitchell said they had been advised by some turtle experts to put the malnourished turtle out of her misery, but eventually decided they could save her.

“We used all our knowledge and gave her medication, and it was a success in the end,” Mr Mitchell said.
