Turtles ‘ripped from shells’, shark carcasses dumped amidst illegal fishing crackdown
Australian Border Force officers have been extremely busy patrolling the Kimberley as reports of illegal fishing camps increase.
Legitimate fishers and residents are up in arms over instances of aggression and violence allegedly undertaken by foreign fishing groups.
WA Fishing Industry Council’s Darryl Hockey told Sean Cowan on 6PR Mornings while he commends the work being done by the ABF, he’s being told it’s barely scratching the surface.
“There is just an armada of boats coming down there some of the tropical Asian countries, and there’s a huge amount of damage being done particularly to some very iconic spots up in the North.” Mr Hockey said.
