Unions WA: Wages policy ‘falls short’ despite Government increase for public sector

Unions WA say the State Government’s wages policy still ‘falls short’ despite announcing a revised pay deal for public sector workers.

Employees will see a three per cent pay increase per annum for the next two years – in addition to a one-off payment of $2500.

Unions WA secretary Owen Whittle told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast that workers may still struggle to get over the line with the rising cost of living.

“We welcomed the fact that the government has moved on its wages policy and recognised that the previous policy just wasn’t fit for purpose,” he said.

“We are still concerned about high inflation and high cost of living in Western Australia,

“And if you look at this policy in light of that, it does fall short .”
