Urgent appeal as cat surrender numbers become overwhelming

WA’s only open-admission cat shelter has reached crisis levels, receiving between 30 and 50 surrendered cats daily.

Roz Robinson, CEO of Cat Haven, explained to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the shelter was already over capacity when they were forced to take in 31 cats surrendered by a single owner.

“This man—we don’t know the full story—claims he was homeless and had possibly three or four cats crammed into each carrier. Some had urinated and were covered in their own urine and faeces. Even if you don’t like cats, no one wants to see an animal in that condition,” she said.
