The use of WA Police dogs to apprehend young offenders will go under the microscope with the process being labelled “racist”.

The Corruption and Crime Commissioner has addressed the use of dogs to assist with the arrest of indigenous juvenile criminals expressing ‘grave’ concern for the practice and labelled it “racist in effect”.

Commissioner John McKechnie is calling for WA Police to rethink its policies which he believes are not always necessary.

Western Australian Police Union acting president Paul Gale told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the dogs aren’t trained to be racist.
