As self-admitted murderer Paul Cannon receives a life sentence for the killing of his wife, domestic violence prevention organisations are continuing to call for impactful and immediate changes to what is quickly becoming an epidemic of violence.

Cannon was sentenced to life with possibility of parole in 19 years after stabbing his wife to death in their Lansdale home before attempting to take his own life.

Lucy Saw Centre CEO Anne Moore told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR MorningsĀ the prevalence of domestic violence in WA is hardly able to be handled by existing infrastructure.

“There’s something like 40 refuges, and they’re all full,” Ms Moore said.

“You can see how the strain is affecting not just us, but government as well; we’re all feeling the frustrations around this.”
