WA police are fed up, launching a new project to educate and enforce road users on riding safely. This comes after 37 per cent of all fatalities on WA roads were motorcycle users.

It not only involves stopping riders for drug and alcohol tests but providing them with a QR code that connects them to the road safety commission with advice on how to ride safely and anticipate some of the things that may occur in front of them.

Commander of Road Policing for WA Police Mike Bell told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons while 37 percent of total fatalities are on motorcycles, motorcyclists only make up four percent of the vehicles on WA roads.

Mr Bell also noted that although this may be a gross overrepresentation, motorcyclists are still vulnerable road users with no real safety equipment.

“A lot of what we are seeing is motor vehicles interacting with motor bikes and the fault can be the motorcycle travelling at at speed but can also be the motorist driving the car,” Mr Bell said.
