A Perth screening program is will potentially give parents and carers the ability to deal with developmental issues much earlier than previously, making a defined impact on the efficacy of interventions and therapies.

The world-leading work by Andrew Whitehouse from Telethon Kids Institute in Perth not only has huge implications for social and educational outcomes, but could potentially start to reduce the number of children accessing the NDIS.

Professor Whitehouse talked to Julie-anne Sprague about the program onĀ 6PR Afternoons, and said the rate of developmental diagnoses are clearly increasing a putting more and more strain on the health system.

We know that organisations are extremely overwhelmed by the number of kids that are receiving their services, so we really need to find new ways that we can better support these kids,” Professor Whitehouse said.
