WA farmers could be forced to dump tonnes of grain onto the ground
As WA looks to a produce a bumper grain harvest this season, farmers warn they could be forced to tip tonnes of high-demand grain onto the dirt. The issue being that the grain silos are still full from last season.
Grain-farmer from Toodyay, Darren Best told Oly Peterson on Perth Live they need a solution, as it seems to be they can’t get grain onto rail or enough road break to move it quickly enough.
“There’s a block which means its not getting to the port and onto ships,” he says.
“We’re probably in for the biggest grain season WA has seen.. and we’ve got 5 million tonnes of carry-over grain in the system”
“The bottom line is farmers are very worried about this… if this was iron ore there wouldn’t be a problem, it already would have been fixed.”
